The mission of Safer Lisburn is an effective partnership engaging with community to reduce crime, fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.
Safer Lisburn is presently working through a new strategic plan for 2008-2011.
The Government is determined to play its part in building safer communities, but it can only do that if it gains the co-operation of all the agencies and organisations that can help prevent and deter crime, apprehend and convict criminals and rehabilitate and resettle ex-offenders. Most importantly, unless we as individuals accept some responsibility for both our personal safety and the safety of our community, then much of the good work by local Community Safety Partnerships and others will be in vain.
Community Safety is defined as preventing, reducing and containing the social, environmental and intimidatory factors, which affect people’s right to live without fear of crime and which impact upon their quality of life. It includes preventative measures that contribute to crime reduction and tackles anti-social behaviour. Community Safety is about delivering local solutions to local problems that have been identified by local people.
Safer Lisburn incorporating Lisburn City Community Safety Partnership was initiated by Lisburn Community Safety Forum in the year 2000. A wide variety of organisations and forums, which had inherited various remits for community safety, formed Lisburn City Community Safety Partnership to improve local co-ordination.
